Dear MoveOn member,
Since Trump came into office, millions of people have taken to the streets in opposition to his authoritarian, billionaire-backed agenda. Protest remains a fundamental strategy for building and sustaining public defiance of this administration, and is a right we still possess.
To continue building skills to keep ourselves and our communities safe during protests, MoveOn and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) invite you to join a virtual De-escalation and Know Your Protest Rights training session on Tuesday, July 22, at 8 p.m. ET.
During the session, you'll learn effective de-escalation techniques and understand how to recognize and calmly respond to escalating behaviors or conflicts—whether among opposition groups, bystanders, or law enforcement and ICE.
You'll also have a better understanding of your First Amendment rights as a protestor—from where you can be to what you can say and do. You'll learn what is protected and what isn't protected, all in an effort to keep you and your community safe.
Will you RSVP now for tomorrow's De-escalation and Know Your Protest Rights training with the ACLU?
The core principle behind all MoveOn-supported events is a commitment to nonviolent action, and we always ask that all participants seek to de-escalate potential confrontation with those who may disagree with our values. We also recognize that it's important for MoveOn members to feel equipped, and this upcoming training is an opportunity to get started or build on whatever skills you already have.
Wherever you are and whatever your level of concern, this training is a great opportunity to learn best practices to consider when hosting or attending an event in order to help ensure it's as safe and welcoming as possible for all participants.
Please RSVP to join this critical training and invite others in your community to join you.
Thanks for all you do.

P.S. On Saturday, July 26, MoveOn and progressive partners are organizing the Families First national day of action in response to Republicans gutting Medicaid, FEMA, and school lunches, while increasing funding for ICE and giving tax breaks to billionaires. We must make clear that our families come first—not billionaires, not authoritarians, and not corrupt politicians. Find an event near you and RSVP now!
Want to support MoveOn's work? Donald Trump's authoritarian takeover intensifies every day. But we must remember that authoritarian governments worldwide have not withstood a challenge by 3.5% or more of its people. MoveOn can reach, train, organize, and support at a scale unparalleled in the progressive movement—which we need now more than ever.
